Craps

Sat Aug 15, 2009, 9:51 PM
So I am now a Craps dealer. some people say you either love it or you hate it, some say you'll hate it then you'll love it. right now i just don't like the people around the game, some of my fellow co-workers, supervisers, players...

just so you know, dice is like the ultimat mental challenge i've ever experienced. so much to remember, so much to figure out. constant thought and figuring and and everything else.

for those of you that have no clue about working in casino's Dice is the ultimate game to deal, it is a career move to learn to deal dice. if you can deal dice you can almost get a job in any casino, to some degree. you are considered a "break in" (rookie, new guy, non experienced) for the first 3-5 years just to give you an idea of how drastic this game is.

the intinsity of it when there is 5, 6, 7, or 8 people on your side and people are betting and hollaring and winning/losing. it can be a very intimidating experience.

just to give you an example of what you have to go through on the game...

there are 3 types of "rolls" of the dice.
1. come out- to establish a point, at this point if a 7/11 roll, pass line wins, don't pass loses, 2/3 rolls don't pass wins, pass line loses... 12 rolls pass line loses, don't pass is a push(nothing happens) any other number rolls and a point is established

2. intermediate - player rolls dice trying to re-roll the point, lets say the point it 6, as long as any number but the 6, and 7 roll, that is an intermediate roll.

3. decision roll - only determined if the point or a seven is rolled. example: if 6 is the point and a 7 rolls pass line loses and the don't pass wins. but if the 6 rolls the pass line wins and the don't pass loses...

with all of that there are odds also for each number, two different sets of odds, there are place bet odds and true odds... the odds on numbers are in pairs, 6&8's true odds are 6:5 placebet odds are 7:6
5&9's true odds are 3:2 (same as blackjack) placebet odds are 7:5
4&10's true odds are 2:1 (double) placebet odds are 9:5

in addition to all of this there is a pattern to how you must take and payout and move bets to certain spots. all of this and you have to be able to do it with a decent amout of speed, certain accuracy and try to not pass out...

did i mention that on the placebets people can also tell you to press up their placebets and you have to know what to do and how much they can put on each number...

it's just a complete mental raping... i'm still out to lunch on wether i like it or not...

So, I pull my coat back and real slow (no reason to start it up yet) I rest my hand by the Smith. Then I give them that cold smile and in the low, soft killing voice I say, "Gentlemen, I'm your worst nightmare. A gunfighter with a rendering station"
